A craft competition in South Korea
The Cheongju Craft Biennale Organizing Committee recently announced the competition guideline for the 2023 Cheongju International Craft Competition. The grand prize winner of the Craft Competition will be awarded a prize of about $47,000. The application period starts this Friday, March 31, and ends May 7, 2023.
The 2023 Cheongju Craft Biennale, which will meet the winners of this competition through exhibitions and publications, will be held for 45 days, from September 1 to October 15, 2023, in Cheongju, South Korea.

🌴 CLAY LA 2023 is taking place this weekend, April 1-2, in Los Angeles. CLAY LA is Craft Contemporary's annual ceramic marketplace and fundraiser that brings together dozens of emerging and established ceramic makers from the greater Los Angeles area. Join the celebration, meet, and shop from some of LA's most dynamic and vibrant artists, celebrated for their diverse and unique approaches to art and design.
👌 The Northern Clay Center (Minneapolis, MN) opened the applications for the McKnight Artist Residency for Ceramic Artists program, which recognizes and supports mid-career ceramic artists whose work demonstrates exceptional artistic merit. Up to three 3-month residencies will be awarded in 2023 through a competitive application process and will take place during the 2024 calendar year. Each resident artist will receive a $6,000 award (for a three-month residency), studio space provided at no cost, and a glaze and firing stipend. Applications are due May 19.
🗨 The North-West Ceramics Foundation announced their next Speakers Series Event, a panel presentation on Zoom, on Sunday, April 2, at 2 pm (PDT). The panel consists of four BC ceramic artists of Chinese descent, Amy Li Chuan Chang, Wei Cheng, Ying-Yueh Chuang, and Evan Ting-Kwok Leung, who will discuss the influence of their language, culture and heritage on their studio practice in Canada. Registration is free.
📈 Join the British Ceramics Biennial's Factory seminars, a series of free online workshops designed for artists and creative businesses struggling to identify and reach their audiences. The next events are scheduled for April 5 - Creative Business Planning and April 17 - Crafting Your Next Job Application.
👍 The Clay Studio (Philadelphia, PA) also hosts an artist talk with Christina West and Chris Rodgers on Thursday, March 30, at 1 pm (EST). Christina and Chris both reinterpreted Ancient Greek sculptures for their work exhibited in Figuring Space. Join them to talk about what it means to examine work made thousands of years ago to make something new.
📌 Sheffield Ceramics Festival is happening later this week at the Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield, UK. Over 50 ceramic artists will exhibit and offer their work for sale.
