News from the ceramic art world
📙 "The diversity of his output – in terms of materials, techniques and styles – is dramatic, spanning raku-firing, soda-firing and wood-firing; surface effects he explored range from glossy green oribe to the organic browns born of an anagama kiln’s flames." I truly recommend reading this article in praise of Ryoji Koie, who passed away this summer at the age of 82. Oxford Ceramics Gallery is currently hosting a memorial exhibition.
👌 Tomorrow you can join a webinar hosted by Torbjørn Kvasbø, former professor of ceramics and President of the International Academy of Ceramics since 2018. This lecture is part of a series by Applied Arts Ireland & Northern Ireland. Later this month you can join other lectures with Jonathan Keep, Lin Cheung or Matthew Blakely.
🔎 Two local ceramic shows with over 30 participants will begin (online) later this week: The Spruce Pine Potters Market and Midwest Clay Online.
🎓 Clarke University is seeking qualified candidates for a Spring 2021 semester visiting professor in Ceramics and Sculpture. Job posted on September 23.
⚡ Clay Art Center is hosting a panel discussion on The Role of Art in the Fight for Social Justice. Moderated by artist Earlene Cox, with guest artists including Paul Briggs, Vinnie Bagwell and Wesley Brown.
